The Wall St. Journal has reported that there is 1.6 billion dollars of timber lost in the panhandle due to hurricane Michael. I had a lot of massive longleaf pines and other species on my 30 acres and all are down or damaged. The pine beetles will attack soon the remaining standing trees and all will have to be removed. The pine beetles can only attack weak or stressed trees. We have an American Forest Management office very close by and I have been there twice hoping to find a buyer for my saw logs and plywood size logs but they say there are no buyers coming to this area and all the mills are full of logs and cannot handle anymore. Wish I had a sawmill! Looks like we will have to burn most of ours it is a big loss for our area and may cause higher lumber costs a few years down the road.
